WASHINGTON — Today, I couldn’t resist the lovely Spring weather and decided to explore two of my favorite local National Historic Sites during lunch. A quick visit to the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site and a short stroll at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens were exactly what I needed after spending a long Winter cooped up at home.

Port Republic Battlefield Monument
PORT REPUBLIC, Va. — The Port Republic Battle Monument commemorates the fierce fighting at the Battle of Port Republic, fought on June 9, 1862. As part of Stonewall Jackson’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign during the American Civil War, Confederate forces captured a roughly 70-foot-high hill that served as a key Union artillery defensive position overlooking “The Coaling.” From this vantage point, Union guns inflicted heavy losses on Confederate forces until Jackson’s troops launched repeated assaults and ultimately captured the hill.

PLL / WLL Championship Series - Night 1
Night 2 of incredible Championship Series lacrosse! 🥍
The Maryland Charm couldn't overcome the Boston Guard and were eliminated from the Women’s Lacrosse League championships. Meanwhile, the New York Atlas vs. California Match in the Premier Lacrosse League was an overtime thriller that ended in controversy.
Fast-paced, exciting games were the theme of the week and a great example of the continued growth of professional lacrosse for both the men's and women's game.

Really fun night of Championship Series lacrosse! 🥍
The Carolina Chaos beat the Denver Outlaws to advance to the knockout round in the Premier Lacrosse League. In the Women’s Lacrosse League, the New York Charging knocked off the previously undefeated California Palms, setting up tonight’s Maryland Charm game as a win-and-advance matchup.
It’s great to see exciting games and the continued growth of the sport across both leagues. If you enjoy lacrosse, these Championship Series games are definitely worth watching!
